Position Summary: Under general supervision, performs responsible and professional work in maintenance of zoological park equipment and motor vehicles. Principal Responsibilities: Perform the general maintenance, repair, specialized work or other related shop work for all Bronx Zoo-based cars, electric carts, trucks, vans and heavy equipment, including all attachments associated with such equipment (i.e. plows, spreaders, winches, towing hitches, leaf vacuum, light packages, etc.) and maintain records of such work and regular maintenance schedules as required. Transport vehicles and equipment to and from outside vendors. Clean and perform preventive maintenance with regularly scheduled inspection of all equipment and vehicles to ensure proper fluid levels are maintained along with checking all components such as but not limited to belts, bulbs, lenses, wiper blades, hoses, tires, etc. and replace when needed Repair and maintain, or arrange, when directed, for the repair and/or maintenance of all types of small engine equipment and rolling equipment. Maintain written records of such work. Prepare reports on work performed and materials used as required. Assist in maintaining the safety and cleanliness of the garage and associated areas, including areas outside the garage including proper storage and disposal of chemicals and materials. May perform ground maintenance work as required. Will be required to respond to snow and storm related emergencies to assist with removal and clean-up operations both within and outside normal business hours. Qualification Requirements High School Diploma or Equivalent Five (5) years experience or technical field training in automotive mechanics plus knowledge of electric carts. Valid Driver License Physical Demands and Working Conditions: The position requires indoor work and outdoor work in all weather conditions. Tasks require manual dexterity and the ability to safely use tools and equipment, including but not limited to hand tools (wrenches, ratchets, screwdrivers) etc., power tools (battery-powered and electric), and pneumatic (air-powered) tools such as impact guns, torque tools, floor jacks, and grinders (including angle grinders). Some tasks require climbing, kneeling, bending, reaching, stretching, navigating uneven terrain frequently Ability to lift, carry, and move up to 50 pounds on a regular basis with or without assistance Ability and willingness to work weekends, holidays, evenings as the schedule demands. Ability to respond to emergencies as required.
